Iheanacho ruled out of Manchester City’s clash with Tottenham
The Nigerian will play no part in the Citizen’s clash against Spurs at the White Hart Lane after failing to recuperate from his injury on time
Kelechi Iheanacho is not fit enough to play for Manchester City against Tottenham Hotspur at the White Hart Lane on Saturday.
The 19-year-old midfielder who failed to travel with Manuel Pellegrini’s men who spanked Sunderland 4-1 in Tuesday’s League Cup game joins David Silva, Gael Clichy, Fabian Delph, Eliaquim Mangala and Wilfried Bony on the sidelines.
“At this moment, Mangala, Clichy, Delph, Silva, Bony and Kelechi are the six players injured,” Pellegrini told journalists at his pre-match press conference:
“Kompany is back, Hart is back, Nasri is back.
“I’m not 100% sure [when Mangala and Silva will be back], it depends on how they improve – maybe David can be fit for next Championship game, we’ll see next week. For Mangala, it will be difficult for him to be fit before the international break.
“It’s important for the team to have Vincent back. He’s just recovering, he’s the captain and he played well at the start of the season. Not just defending but he scored three goals also.
“We’ve had a lot of different injuries so it’s not just one reason but that’s why it’s important to have a squad,” he concluded.
Iheanacho has made three appearances for the Etihad Stadium giants and boast of a goal scored against Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park.
