Man City and Chelsea transfer swoop for Paul Pogba would have to smash Britain’s £59.7m fee record

Manchester City and Chelsea have been told they must break both the British transfer record and their wage structures if they are to have any chance of landing Paul Pogba.

Paris Saint-Germain have stolen a march in the race to sign brilliant France international midfielder Pogba by submitting a £60million bid to his Italian club, Juventus.

But personal terms are yet to be agreed for the 22-year-old and it is likely to take a five-year deal worth in excess of £320,000-a-week to land one of the hottest properties in football.

Sources in France claim that the offer has been accepted by Juventus, but that the Italian club are hoping the move will spark a summer auction that will drive the price towards £75million.

And, crucially, Pogba is still to seal an agreement over wages.

It means that outgoing champions City and their likely successors Chelsea will have to shatter the £59.6million British transfer record set by Manchester United last summer when they bought Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria.
