It was a thriller in the game between Nigeria and Mexico in the Fifa U -17 soccer competition played at Estadio Municipal Ester Roa Concepcion Chile. It was a game that saw six goals scored with some of the best goals in the tournament. It was Mexico that opened the scores seven minutes into the first half when Kevin Magana placed a shot through the side post from the eighteen yard box from a very good cross by Kevin Lara. Nigeria replied with two goals from Nwakali and Okonkwo in the 35th and 43rd minutes of the first half. Both goals were top class goals. Nwakali curling the ball into the net through the left side of the post living the Mexican keeper helpless from a beautifully taken free kick from 25 yards and Okonkwo producing a thunder bolt with his right foot from outside the eighteen yard box living the Mexican keeper stunned not knowing how and where the ball got into the post.
The Mexicans gave the Nigerians a run for their money. They produced some good attacking football making it difficult for the Nigerian defenders at some point. The most outstanding of them was when Cortes from Mexico dribbled past five Nigerian players to calmly place the ball at the side post scoring the equaliser for the Mexicans at the 59th minute of the game. Here the game was 2-2.
However Ebere and Nigerian marksman Osimhen broke the Mexican heart by emphatically finishing the game with a goal each at the 67th and 83rd minutes respectively, Osimhen scoring from the spot after John Lazarus was brought down by a Mexican defender. The game ended 4-2 in favour of Nigeria.
This means that Nigeria will now play Mali at the final. It is an all African finals at the Fifa U -17 soccer competition. Mali cruised passed Belgium in an earlier game that ended 3-1. Nigeria and Mali met at the finals of the African U-17 competition where the Malians came out victorious. This will make the Nigerian come out smoking to have their pound of flesh. My guess is that the final will be a match to watch from these two African teams.
