The U-17 Fifa world cup is coming to Nigeria again after the young lads of the Nigerian team put up a superb display to thrash their Malian opponent 0-2. This is the fifth time Nigeria is winning the tournament making her the country to have won this tournament more than any other country. Nigeria came into the competition as the defending champion of the game having won the last game hosted by the UAE in 2013 with the likes of players like Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidiebere Nwakali whose brother Kelechi Nwakali is in the captain of the Nigerian team that just won the final in Chile.
The goal scorers for Nigeria are Victor Osimhen and Bamgboye whose goals came at the 56th and 59th minute of the game respectively. Osimhen won the golden boot and the silver ball of the tournament having scored the highest goal in the tournament (10) with two assists. With this he has set a new tournament record beating the recored set by Cote d’Ivoire Souleymane Coulibaly in 2011 (9) and France’s Florent Sinama Pongolle in 2001 (9).
This winning is very significant for Nigeria because it shows what we can achieve if we remain united and not divided. It shows what we can do if we put efficiency and merit first and not ethnicity or tribalism. The boys that won this cup came from different part of the country. Their unity and not disunity helped a lot to bring us the cup a fifth time to the country. May we all learn to be united and respect each other. We are all important. We need each other to build a better and great country.
Kudos to the golden eaglets of Nigeria. You have made us proud. #iamproudtobeanigerian.
