The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has expressed joy over Akinwumi Ambode’s victory at Saturday’s governorship election.
Speaking last night, Tinubu attributed Ambode’s victory to the radical transformation and well-articulated programmes he started 16 years ago, Daily Post reports.
Tinubu said: “Our victory in Lagos is as a result of hard work I started 16 years ago. Constistent radical transformation of Lagos and well-articulated programmes, including education, infrastructure, urban renewal, innovative system of finance, knowledge-based economy and job creation in partnership with private sector. That resulted in leap development of Lagos.”
He also hailed the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Jimi Agbaje for conceding defeat, describing him as a man of good values and character.
“We must bear in mind that a good democrat must accept result of a free and fair election,” the APC leader said.
According to him, Lagos would start another race in its transformation drive given its alignment with the federal government.
For 16 years, the national leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, has held sway in the state. With the PDP holding presidential position for 16 years, Lagos and the Federal government have never been aligned.
But with the APC winning both the presidential and Lagos governorship election, Lagos will be aligned with the centre for the first time.
