EXPOSED: Gov. Amaechi deceived me into dumping PDP – Deputy Gov. Ikuru
Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi has stated that the defection of his deputy governor , Engr. Tele Ikuru from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) came as a surprise to the party.
Ikuru had announced his defection from the APC on Sunday, March 22, saying the party is filled with rebels.
Speaking on Monday, March 23, 2015 during a reception organised by the leadership of PDP in Port Harcourt, Ikuru stated that he was deceived into dumping PDP in 2013 and joining the APC, Leadership reports.
He added that Gov Amaechi made him believe joining the APC was the best thing.
“I was deceived, I must confess. I was told that it was the new order. I did not know that it was all about the ambition of an individual. I say big thank you to you all (PDP members) because when I was deceived out of PDP, if all of you had not stood your ground to keep the party alive, where would I have returned to?
“In our darkness, we thought that we were in the right place.
“What is happening in Rivers State today will haunt all of us if we allow it to go unchallenged,” the deputy governor said.
Ikuru defected with some of his supporters including former deputy mayor of Port Harcourt City local government area, Hon Victor Ere, secretary of APC in Andoni local government area, Hon Kingston Silvanus and 19 commissioners
Naij also reports that Ikuru has moved out of his official quarters, located in the Old GRA, Port Harcourt, and moved into his personal residence.
Recall that Mr Ikuru was first elected deputy governor to Celestine Omehia in 2007, before the duo was removed by the Supreme Court less than six months in office. When Mr. Amaechi was sworn in as governor under the platform of the PDP, he retained Mr. Ikuru as his deputy.
