Saraki’s trial affirmation of war against corruption—BNC

THE Benin National Congress, BNC, a socio-cultural organization in Edo State, has described the trial of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, by the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, as a signal of an era of uncompromising war against corruption.

The group in a statement by its President, Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo, contended that “ if an All Progressives Congress, APC, stalwart of the Senate President’s standing can be charged to court on offences allegedly committed since 2003, it clearly shows that public office holders should be careful and note that it is no longer business as usual.”

While urging Nigerians to stop insinuating that Saraki’s travails were politically motivated, the group urged Nigerians to look at the facts behind the charges levelled against the Senate President, arguing that “when we continue to insinuate that it was politically motivated, it will be difficult to fix the problem of corruption which was, over the years, perpetrated by the so- called big men who have held this nation to ransom over the years. It is also an affirmation of President Buhari’s declaration that corrupt elements within the APC will not escape justice. We urge the EFCC and the ICPC to be proactive in investigating serving public office holders, especially those without immunity and not wait till they leave office.

“It is good that the Senate President is being given the opportunity to defend himself and that is how it should be. This is the end of the era of the untouchables. We all must encourage this government to do the right thing rather than discouraging it because if Nigeria fails, it is we the poor masses that will suffer not Buhari or those who have participated in the looting of this nation.”
