FINALLY! The long awaited win has arrived. Leonardo DiCaprio has finally won his first Oscar at the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 28 as the best actor in the movie titled the “Revenant”
It was surely a surreal moment for the actor as he received a standing ovation while making his way towards the stage.
In his words of gratitude, Leonardo DiCarprio 41, told the crowd: “Thank you all so much … The Revenant was a product of the tireless efforts of the cast and crew I got to work alongside,” He later thanked his co-star Tom Hardy for his fierceness on screen and for his “friendship off screen.”
The environmentalist also addressed climate change during his speech. “Climate change is real it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species. We need to work together to stop procrastinating,” DiCaprio continued. “Let us not take this planet for granted, I do not take tonight for granted.”
In The Revenant, DiCaprio portrays 19th-century American frontiersman Hugh Glass, who is left for dead by his comrades after being mauled by a bear.
Kate Winslet, who has been on hand to support the actor throughout the awards season, was spotted beaming with pride in the audience.
Fans have been rooting for DiCaprio to have his big moment ever since the Wolf of Wall Street actor lost the 2014 Oscar to Matthew McConaughey. McConaughey snagged Best Actor for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.
Hearty Congratulations to You DiCarprio
