Police Inspector, Two Others Electrocuted To Death


A tragic event which lead to the electrocution of an Inspector of Police, Mallam Abu Gani and two others to death have left the residents of Jatua community in Maitumbi Bosso Local Government of Niger State in a comatose condition. 

Nigerian Tribune reports that the incident happened at about 3:48 a.m last Saturday, as a mysterious fire gutted and burnt down two houses after a spark from high tension cables that passed through their residence, which was near an FM Radio Station.

An eyewitness has it that the deceased police officer was said to have been at the scene to rescue some people shortly after he allegedly received a distress call. He went straight to see what was going on there but was trapped in the inferno.

The source, who craved anonymity, in a brief chat noted that the Inspector of Police was, until the time of his untimely death, the Inspector in charge of crimes, attached to Maitumbi police station.

According to the source, the village head (Mai- Angwa) and one of his sons were the first victims after which a friend to his son who raced to the scene, with the intention of saving his friend, was also caught in the inferno before the arrival of policemen.

Meanwhile, ASP Bala Elkana, the Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State police command, confirmed that three persons were killed on the spot, including an Inspector of Police, while two houses got burnt from the spark.

He said victims corpses were deposited at the mortuary section of the General Hospital, Minna, on Saturday evening, while investigation into the immediate and remote cause of the incident was still ongoing.
