Cristiano Ronaldo early life

In the first instance, Cristiano Ronaldo was born on 5 February, 1985, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. His parents later named him  “Ronaldo” after the former Republican president of U.S.A, Ronald Reagan. Sometimes however, he is referred to as CR7 by the soccer world. “CR” stands for the initials of his name while “7” for the number of the jersey he wears.

His mum and dad are Maria Dolores dos Santos and Jose Dinis Aveiro respectively. Moreover, his parents had four children and he was the youngest among them all. His father, Jose was municipal gardener and a part-time kit man. Jose was a drunk and died of kidney problem. In order to have money to take care of her four children after the death of her husband, Ronaldo’s mother had to work as a cook and a cleaner. It was not easy for Ronaldo and his siblings. He grew up therefore in a poor catholic family where he shared a room with his brother and sisters.

Ronaldo early soccer experience

When he was seven years old, he played as an amateur for the amateur team Andorinha. Specifically, CR7 played for this team from 1992 to 1995.  As soon as he was done with Andorinha, he joined Clube Desportivo Nacional in Funchal, Madeira; where, he spent two hears playing for them. Then, at the age of twelve, in 1997, he was signed by Sporting CP for a fee of £1,500. He later played for the club’s football academy. And when he was 14 years, with the permission of his mother, he stopped school to be a semi-professional footballer.

Professional soccer career

Truely, he was so good that within the same year, he was promoted to play for the club’s under-16. Similarly, in the same season, he was also promoted to under-17, under-18, the B team and the first team. When he got to the first team, he made is Primeira Liga debut against Moreirense in October 7, 2002. In effect, Sporting CP won his debut game 3 – 0 where Ronaldo scored a brace. In August 2003, when Sporting CP defeated Manchester United 3 -1 at the inauguration of the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon, Alex Ferguson became interested in him. Then, Alex Ferguson was Manchester United coach.

b. Cristiano Ronaldo the Manchester United Player

Manchester United signed Cristiano Ronaldo before the 2003 – 2004 season for a transfer fee of £12.24 million. He was 18 years old when he was signed. Also, he was the first ever Portuguese player to sign for Manchester United.  Above all, the fee he was signed for made him the most expensive teenager in English football history.

When he came to the club he received the no 7 jersey. This was the number that notable past United players wore like George Best, Eric Cantona and David Beckham.

In due time, On 16 August 2003, CR7 made his debut for Manchester United in the Premier League. Overall, it was a debut that was worth remembering. In this case, Manchester United played at home against Bolton Wanderers. At the end of the game, Manchester United won 4 -0. Ronaldo came on as a 60th minute substitute for Nicky Butt with a standing ovation. George Best described his debut in summary, as, “undoubtedly the most exciting debut” he had ever seen.

Significantly, 2006/2007 season was a breakout year for CR7 the footballer. The reason for this is because it was the year he broke the 20-goal barrier for the first time playing for Manchester United. Not only that he broke the 20-goal barrier in that season, he also scored three consecutive braces at the end of December, against Aston Villa, Wigan Athletic and Reading. Moreover, he was named the Premier League Player of the Month in November and December. As a result, he was the third player to receive consecutive honours in the Premier League. Conclusion

Cristiano Ronaldo is a great soccer player by all means. The stats of his football career speak for itself explicitly. Surely, he has achieved a lot for club and for country. He has also won some personal laurels. Certainly, the only person that can compete with him at the moment, is Lionel Messi of Argentina and Barcelona. Both of them are super humans when we talk about the round leather.
