English Premier League Best Players for Match Day 1

English Premier League best player and EPL ranking

EPL Ranking for day 1

English Premier League (EPL) is one of the best and  very exciting soccer league in the world. The 2017/2018 season kicked off last weekend and matches were played 11th, 12th and 13th of August. It was a weekend filled with excitements, drama, surprises, lot of goals and prospects. The first game of all the teams showed that there could be surprises by the time the season concludes. It showed also that there would be lot of goals scored during this season. It won’t be surprising if the highest goal scorer exceeds the 30 goal mark. For sure the English Premier League (EPL) will be very competitive in all aspect this season. My main interest here is to delineate the EPL ranking of day 1 for players at the various positions or categories.

Though it may look early to start talking about EPL ranking of players, yet, it will serve to give us an overview of players that may do well for the 2017/2018 premier league season. As the season progresses, some of the best players will continue to develop and do better while we still have to be open for late starters. For sure, there will be players that will pick up later into the season. So we are aware of this fact.

This EPL ranking of players for day 1 is credited to Sam Tighe of Bleacher Report and Whoscored.com.

English Premier League Ranking for Goalkeepers

It will surprise you who top the list here. I think you would have guessed that maybe David De Gea of Manchester United or Thibaut Courtios of Chelsea would be among the top three. However, Courtios of  Chelsea did not make the list. It is not surprising because he had three goals pass him. David De Gea is not among the top three because he was really not much in action due to a very fortified defensive and attacking play by Manchester United. You could count how many times he touched the ball with his hands. So the surprising name that top the list is Jonas Lossl of Huddersfield. Though it was his premier league debut with his team mates, he made some superb stops  and got his distribution of the ball perfect. He came out from the game with clean sheet. What a way to make a debut in the premier league as a goalkeeper.

EPL Ranking of Right-Backs/Right-Wing-Backs

Kyle Walker of Manchester City is the number one in this group. The reason for this is because he played a great game in the first game against Brighton. His defensive and offensive capability made him exceptional. He has been an outstanding right-back player since he was playing for Tottenham Hotspur. It is not surprising therefore why Man City snatched him away from them. Last weekend he showed that he is one of the best right-back in the English Premier League (EPL).
