2019 presidency: Ijaw group declares for Atiku
– The DIGPM said it would support Atiku’s presidential bid
– The group said the former vice president can bring glory to the PDP
– It described Atiku as a man who can stabilise the country
The Delta Ijaw Grassroots Political Movement (DIGPM) has declared its support for Allhaji Atiku Abubakar saying his presidency will be the best for the country.
Atiku defected from the ruling All Progressives to the Peoples Democratic Party and although he has not made his political ambition public, there are speculations he would run for presidency.
Vanguard reports that in a statement by Oliver Isaac and Mr. Ebikeme Banre who are the chairman and secretary of DIGPM respectively, the group said Atiku’s support for restructuring will bring peace to the country.
“Your decision to return to the PDP at this time is appropriate and your aspiring for the office of president in 2019 is laudable and a welcome development in the history of Nigeria as a whole as it is not borne out of selfishness.”
The group said that “Atiku’s political sagacity coupled with the concrete efforts of other well meaning PDP stakeholders were significant in producing Prince Uche Secondus as the generally accepted party leader” and it was optimistic that “with the PDP crisis behind them, victory was sure for the PDP in 2019.”
Meanwhile, Atiku said that he has vision for a new Nigeria where there will be peace, unity and progress while religious and ethnic bigotry will completely be scraped out in the country.
Vanguard reports that he said time has come for Nigerians to stand with one accord and say no to anything that will bring division in the country, noting that Nigerians problem are caused by those who fight for their selfish interest.
We gathered that the elder statesman disclosed this on Monday, January 15, while commenting on the Armed forces Remembrance Day and the need to always remember the country’s fallen heroes.
While unleashing the job descriptions and sacrifices made by Nigerian soldiers, Atiku reiterated the need for an urgent collaboration between Nigerians and soldiers that will perhaps help in achieving peace, harmony and respect in country.
