Former Manchester United Defender Evra ”Feels Lucky’ After Return To The Premier League With West Ham

Former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra feels “lucky” after signing for West Ham until June.

The Frenchman, 36, had been without a club since leaving Marseille by mutual consent in November after kicking a fan before a Europa League match.

Evra was banned from Uefa competition for the rest of the season but can play in the Premier League for the Hammers.

“It’s amazing to be back and I am thankful to West Ham for giving me the opportunity to do my job,” he said.

“You don’t realise how lucky you are. Just to wake up this morning and know I am going to train with my new team-mates made me smile.

“When you have to make a deal and money is not the issue, the deal could be done in five minutes. It was the fastest thing I have done in my life.”

The former France international played under Hammers boss David Moyes at Man United before leaving for Juventus in 2014.

He played 379 games for United between 2006 and 2014 and won nine major trophies, including five Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008.

Evra joined Marseille in January 2017 and made nine appearances this season, most recently in October, before the incident prior to a European game against Vitoria Guimaraes on 2 November.
