Former Real Madrid player Luis Enrique has been named new Spain’s La Roja boss.

The former Barcelona boss penned a two-year deal after a disappointing World Cup that also saw former manager Fernando Hierro resigning from the position.

Interestingly, the 2010 winners failed to progress past the last 16 after they were bundled out by host Russia after the unexpected departure of Julen Lopetegui following his appointment as Los Blancos before the mundial.

Ex-Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has been named Spain’s new boss

Fernando Hierro was left at the helms of affair for the Mundial but refused to continue the job and Luis Enrique has now been named as the new manager of La Roja.

The former Real Madrid player is expected to lead La Roja into the qualifying campaign for Euro 2020 and potentially into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Despite been out of work since quitting the Nou Camp outfit, the 48-year-old football tactician has been linked with Arsenal after Arsene Wenger resigned at the end of last campaign.

At the last count, Enrique has won La Liga silverware with both Real Madrid and Barcelona alongside the league, cup and Champion League treble as boss of the Nou Camp dwellers.
