Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger made another quick stop to the dugout this last weekend after leading ‘Mertesacker’ World XI to a slim victory over ‘Mertesacker’ Hannover ’96.

The Frenchman ended his 22-year reign as the Gunners manager at the end of last season against his will according to reports that came out of the Emirates Stadium.

Barely two weeks after leading the Premier League Masters XI to a 9-4 victory over African Masters, Wenger led World XI team to a 10-9 win over ex-Hannover teammates.

He featured for both sides but Ivan Klasnic, Arne Friedrich, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Max Kruse and Claudio Pizarro played a key role as World XI crruised to a 10-9 victory according to ESPN.

The former Werder Bremen defender also got on the score sheet for the winning side after heightening goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler and put the ball at the back of the net for the winners.

Metarsacker was eventually left emotional as his 67-year-old father replaced him in the 67th minute as he got standing ovation from the 40,000 fans at the Stadium.

“Dear fans, what a send-off,” the 2010 World Cup winner said on the pitch after the game.

“I couldn’t have dreamed of playing in front of such an amazing crowd again here in Hannover.

“Thank you very, very much. It means the world to me that I am able to say goodbye here.”

He won three FA Cups and two Community Shields with the Gunners during his seven season stay at the club.
