Man United Boss Mourinho Speaks On Chelsea Sacking Assistant Manager Lanni After Celebrating Infront Of Him

Jose Mourinho says he is not happy with the condemnation Marco Ianni has received over the Chelsea second assistant’s conduct during Manchester United’s draw at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Ianni hit the headlines after his somewhat over-zealous celebration of Chelsea’s injury-time equalizer angered Mourinho, who attempted to confront the Chelsea coach.

However, Mourinho subsequently accepted apologies from Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri and Ianni himself after the game, and thinks calls for the assistant to be sacked are a step too far.

“I want to thank Sarri for his honesty,” said Mourinho. “I want to thank Chelsea for its honesty too – but I am not happy that it is going too far with the young boy.

“I don’t think he deserves more than what he got. He apologized to me, I accept his apologies. I think he deserves a second chance. I don’t think he deserves to be sacked. I don’t think he deserves anything more than the fact his club was strong with him.

“I hope everybody does the same as I did, which is not to disturb the career of a young guy. Probably he is a great guy, a coach with great potential.

“End of story with me, is the minute he apologized to me. Let the boy work. Everybody makes mistakes – I made a lot of mistakes.”
