Before he started the fashion business, he was doing modelling for fashion houses such as Nikki Africanna, Supreme Stitches, Dakova, etc. He was also a choreographer and model manager at some point.
Some of his notable works before fashion designing include handling TV commercials for big Nigeria companies such as Macleans Toothpaste, Indomie Noodles, Ultrasheen, Chocolate eclairs, etc.
He became popular after he chose to be the designer and makeup artist for Agbani Darego at the 2001 Miss World Pageant. Agbani Darego winning the competition brought him into the spotlight. Frank Oshodi has also led the events that made Nigerian fashion famous. One of such is the 2008 edition of the West African Fashion Week. He also specializes in making bride and bridesmaids’ clothing.
Yemi Osunkoya founded Kosiboh label. Kosiboh label is a popular bridal gowns fashion line. He is one of the oldest in the industry with more than twenty-six years of experience. He began his brand in London in 1991.
His fashion brand can includes a collection of formal day and evening outfits. He has clients both in Nigeria and outside Nigeria. Yemi’s couture bridal gowns are known internationally. He has the ability to design and create couture gowns that flatter and enhance the figures of the bride wearing them. This played huge part in his success.
He is also able to achieve what is now known as The Kosibah classical hourglass silhouette through honing his skills in pattern drafting and corsetry over his 26 years of experience dealing with hundreds of different body types.
According to Yemi, the most humbling compliment he did received from a bride was from a plus sized bride who told him in tears that she had never looked and felt so amazing as she stared at her cinched in waistline, and that was all due to the gown Yemi made for her.
He spoke about his dream bridal gown that he would like to design and the person he would like to wear it. His dream bridal gown he said would be one that he would have free reign to order bespoke fabrics and embellishments for the gown and utilize all his design skills to create an iconic and classical gown fit to be worn. The perfect person to wear such a gown he said would be Meghan Markle for her wedding to Prince Harry at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in May 2018.
Due to the couture techniques and corsetry integral to the construction of the gowns he makes, no bride regardless of dress size needs to wear a bra or Spanx type undergarment with his dresses. He is able to integrate all the support needed within the gown.
He makes a couture gown within 6 to 9 months. This entails drafting the pattern, fitting and perfecting the toile (mock version/prototype of the gown) and most importantly the creation of the actual gown which usually involves hours of hand work.

Taiwo and Kehinde Okunoren (Okunoren Twins)
Taiwo and Kehinde Okunoren are the first fashion designer duo in Nigeria. They are popular for their perfect tailoring of men’s suit. Their mother Mrs. Abiola Okunoren was a fashion designer. She was their early inspiration growing up. So, at the age of 19, drawing from this inspiration combined with the increase in demand for English dressing, they started their fashion career. They started their label, Okunoren, in 2002. They began by importing and selling Men’s shirts. The Okunoren Twins label transformed men’s wear by creating bespoke and perfectly tailored suits. They were both nominated for the Entrepreneur of the Year (Beauty & Style) at the 2007 Future Awards. They were also part of the first top Nigerian fashion designers to display their work at the Arise Fashion week, 2012 edition. They have enjoyed the opportunity of styling some of the top Nigerian celebrities: Naeto C, Don Jazzy, D’Banj, J.J Okocha, and many others.
They sought to create a brand that would reflect their core values of minimalism, precision and heritage. An identity that Africans and Non-Africans the world over would come to discover, recognize and appreciate. Drawing inspirations from Savile Row to craft its early collections, the brand has begun to bolster the emergence of a Global African image by reaching deeper into its roots to conceive latter collections. It ventured into luxury retail by opening its Flagship Store in Lagos to wide acclaim in 2013 in a bid to make its Ready to Wear collections more available to its customers.
