Nigeria and Africa had never seen and had a female music artist like Yemi Alade. She is a beautiful soul, a creative singer and a songbird. Her songs are meaningful and pleasing to the ear. Yemi Alade birth place, school and family
Yemi Eberechi Alade is a Nigerian Afro pop, R&B and world singer and songwriter. She is simply known as Yemi Alade, her stage name. The ‘King of all Queens` was born on 13th March, 1989 (29). As regards her family, the female musician was born into a family of seven as the fifth issue to a police commissioner father (James Alade) and mother (Helen Uzoma). Eberechi’s Mother is of Igbo origin while her father is of the yoruba race. As a result, she is fondly referred to as the ‘Yoruba-Igbo girl’. As per her place of birth, she was born in Abia state (Her Mother’s place) but she is originally from Ondo state, southwestern part of Nigeria.
Yemi Alade attended St. Saviour British Primary School. Later, she went on to Victory Grammar School in Lagos and then secured a degree in Geography at the University of Lagos.
The origin of Yemi Alade music interest and fame
The female sensation came across her shine when she won the 2009 ‘Peak Talent Show’ and has been glittering since then till now. Yemi, since her early days has been a lover of music, she has been writing and singing since she was born. The talent hunt gave her a moral boost, hence she said, “Before now, I had always relied on the fact that I can sing. However, now that I have gone through a competition and done some professional training, I realize that I have a lot more to learn about the art and the business. I am more convinced now more than ever that this is the reason I am here.” As a matter of fact, she became a public figure after winning the Talent hunt show. She did go ahead to surprise her fans and audiences while performing at gatherings and local shows until she was signed to Adebayo Omisore owned ‘Jus Kiddin’ Entertainment, since then, her flare for music never stopped.

The Yoruba-Igbo singer signed for and joined the Effyzzie Music Group label in 2012 and in the same year released a single, ‘Ghen Ghen Love’. Meanwhile, that was after she dropped her first single “Fimisile”, under the ‘Jus Kiddin’ label in 2009. Five years later, Eberechi released a video for her song ‘Bamboo’ which Fliptyce produced. The song became a vibe hit and was taken as wedding anthem through out 2013. Moreover, Alade released a major hit and called it ‘Johnny’, this one was produced by Selebobo. The song was about the singer looking for her love, ‘Johnny’. After releasing the song, it became a universal major song that year and was played through out Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Zambia, U. K, Nigeria at large and so on. No video was released as regards to the song that year.
The King of all Queens has performed on different stages both national and international with the likes of Mary J. Blige, Wizkid, Shina Peters, May D, M.I Abaga, Yemi Sax, Waje, Becca among others. In 2013, Alade was the major performer at the Super Diva’s Nite at the 2013 Calabar festival and also opened stage at the same year’s Headies Awards. In March 2014, Yemi released the video of ‘Johnny, of which Clearance Peters was the cinematographer that shot the music video. Obviously, the video was amongst the most viewed Nigerian female music video, as of June 2018, with total number of over 91 million YouTube views.
Here comes another major boost for the Igbo-Yoruba singer. This time, she teamed up with Waje, Timi Dakolo, Burna Boy and M I Abaga to sing the theme song for Port Harcourt, the UNESCO_2014 World Book Capital, as part of a project, urging young people to read and stay in school. Not long after that, Yemi Alade hit Africa and the internet again with a track ‘Tangerine’. This time, she featured Selebobo in the track. At Falz’s debut album launch, she performed as a guest artist. Furthermore, on 2nd October 2014, Yemi Alade relased her first album, King of Queens, which was the origin of her title ‘King of the queens’. Worthy of not, it was at this time, she landed her formal introduction ‘Ho Ha’. Two years later, in March 2016 she released her second studio album and called it ‘Mama Africa’. Early in 2016, she secured her prominence in African music and her entitlement to be called ‘Mama Africa’ when she released a single and titled it ‘Oh My Gosh’.
Alade’s single and collaborations are very many. Nevertheless, her albums are; ‘King of Queens’ (2014), ‘Mama Africa’ (2016), ‘Black Magic’ (2017) amongst others. Regardless, she is looking forward to dropping more.
