After being reappointed as minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has revealed that he knew he would return as minister in the second term of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
The former governor of Rivers state said President Buhari told him that he would be returned as minister, The Nation reports.
We gather that Amaechi, who spoke at his swearing-in reception on Wednesday, August 21, said he would ensure that his ministry performs optimally to please the president and Nigerians at large.
He said: “The president told me the same week cabinet was dissolved that I will return you to cabinet.
“I kept it a secret but I could have announced to you. So all those who were running helter-skelter, we knew that God would not allow them to have their way.
“We are grateful to God for the opportunity to serve again.I know how many of you were frightened that we would not get the appointment.”
Meanwhile, it was previously reported that after being sworn-in as the new minister of interior by President Muhammadu Buhari, the former governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, said he has no knowledge of how the ministry operates.
The minister stated this on Wednesday, August 21, during his visit to the ministry shortly after he was inaugurated and assigned portfolio.
The former governor admitted that he has no idea of the ministry’s policies and operations apart from reading stories about the ministry on the pages of newspapers.
He said: “My relationship with the ministry is distant. What I know about the ministry is what I read in the newspapers.”
Aregbesola instructed the permanent secretary, Barrister Georgina Ehuriah, to continue running the ministry till Monday, August 26, when he would formally take over.
