New Updates:

‘NFF Didn’t Fulfil Falcons’ Bonus Promise’

A Super Falcons player has reacted to the Nigeria Football Federation’s statement on Sunday that it did not owe the women’s national team players, saying the NFF was being economical with the truth.

The players had staged a protest in Grenoble after their 3-0 Round of 16 defeat to Germany at the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France on Saturday, asking to be paid arrears of owed allowances and bonuses.

The players had confirmed that they were paid by the federation but insisted that there were irregularities in terms of the amount.

The football federation, in a statement, released a detailed list of payments it had made to the women’s national team but a prominent member of the squad, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that the money they got was not the amount agreed with the federation.

The NFF said it paid each player N500,000 each for home games against Senegal and Gambia in 2016 and 2018 respectively but our source said that was not the initial payment promised the players.

“In the first place, players weren’t supposed to be paid N500,000, they were supposed to be paid $3000 only for them to come up saying home bonuses will now be paid in naira without informing the players and these are old debts,” our source stated.

“Besides they refused paying the players that are not here (France) the same N500,000 until they staged the protest.”
