The constitutional amendment of the constitution of Nigeria is ongoing and the South West Governors of Nigeria have agreed to present a position. Though they all agreed to do this, they have a dissent in the person of the Governor of Ogun state, Mr Ibikunle Amosun.
Speaking on behalf of the governors, Mr Akeredolu said: “We are from Oduduwa. All of us being brothers are finding solutions to matters that are of common interest to all of us and we are doing it together. One of the issues we tried to look at is this; there are many things affecting us as you all know. It is so clear to us. There is a move for the issue of amendment of the constitution. And as expected, we believe we know as a group what should be our interest. We want to present a common position and have our Houses of Assemblies and other stakeholders who believe in us to come along with us on issues we believe are fundamental to our interest.”
After their meeting which was held at the Ogun state government house in Ibadan, they all agreed to always maintain a common position when it comes to matters affecting the zone irrespective of individual political standing. Governors at the meeting were: Governors Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State.
